Elk Grove, CA – February 18, 2020 – Logan Tosta, Elk Grove Charter School student, is twisting and turning his way to success in a unique way with a game called Kendama. While some may not recognize this name, originating in Japan, Kendama has been around since the 17th or 18th century.

The game involves a short wooden peg with a ball attached by a string. The peg also has two cups connected on opposite sides, one larger and one smaller. At the top of the peg is a spike where the ball rests. Players of Kendama swing the ball around and can complete an endless amount of tricks that end with the ball balancing on the spike or a cup.

Tosta has mastered the game and is now one of the best Kendama players in the country! Logan’s father and EGCS Vice Principal, Seth Tosta, described Logan’s journey with Kendama saying, “It’s one of those things where his friends stopped playing Kendama, but he kept playing and kept playing and he’s got pretty good. He’s put in hours and hours into it and always is playing.”

Logan has achieved a lot of success in his time playing the game since he was in third grade. From competing in a Kendama World Cup in Japan, being sponsored by Kendama USA, traveling the country to compete, to his latest win in January, taking first place in a freestyle competition called Battle of the Border.

Elk Grove Charter School is proud to be a place where students like Logan can explore their passions and conquer their goals. To learn more about the programs and resources available within Elk Grove Charter School, visit the EGCS website!
